I am going to make this article as informative in as few words as possible. I know if you found this post, you are looking for solutions for your online storage needs. If you are going to have a virtual office with collaboration on documents and not have your own server to upkeep and maintain, you are going to have to use virtual storage. And depending on your software needs, you may need to get a virtual or dedicated co-located server. I will share some of the free, cheap and easiest options on up to the more expensive solutions.

So, let’s get started!

Let’s start with the free options.

Mediafire

These guys are one of my favorites and they have so many great options like:

1. Share files and images with all of your friends and upload them only once.
2. Link to files from your MySpace page, your blog, or forums.
3. Upload an unlimited number of files to share with friends and family or storage.
4. Use folders to easily share groups of files or create galleries for all your images.
5. No registration necessary and no software to install.
6. Keep frequently used files online for easy access from any computer with an internet connection.

The downsides of MediaFire are that thy are not quite as secure as some of the other options and they online have an online upload interface.

Student Hosting

These guys are our personal favorite. We currently use them as our solution. Though we have accounts with each, these guys have stayed the easiest to use and have a desktop application called, “Drive Locker,” which allows you to drag and drop your files right into their system. Just like mediafire, they have unlimited file hosting, however, they ONLY allow you to upload 3GB per month!

They make it very easy to share your files, however, not quite as easy as these next folks we want to introduce you to…

4Shared.com

These guys have a free and paid solution. I LOVE theseguys. They have the best ways to share your files through secure sites and portals. They are the most versatile of all the groups that I have found. However, there are TONS of ads on the free solutions and a few times, I have found my site still open when I return due to a glitch. I am sure these issues will soon be addressed and I know we haven’t seen the best from these guys yet!

XDrive.com

XDrive.com is a very neat solution. I like it not because it really ranks with the rest, but because it is easy to use, it has a nice interface and it is connected to your AOL IM (AIM) Screen Name. Yes folks, this is another one of those quick thinker; AOL’s solutions!

I have to say that this is one of the cleaner, nicer themes that I have run across lately. As I continually attempt  to size down the sheer amount of junk that search engines cover us up with and that theme sites seem to automatically post, I am going to attempt to keep posting my favorite themes here so you can find them easily. Here is what I did. I made a simple form script and every time I use it, I simply change the website address on each line. For example, the website on this script is my favorite church in the world’s site: www.tapestrychurch.net. So, all you have to do to use this script is simply copy the code into your sidebar or page and change the referring address from that address to whatever your page’s address is. It’s very simply and Google doesn’t mind. This is a free service they offer and you are welcome to use it. I really like Google’s version much better than Babel-Fish. We have found that the folks in our community who speak the languages in general like Google’s translations better.

Also, Google has many other languages you can add to this tool, by simply using this link to translate your page and add the link to the script below. Try it here: http://www.google.com/language_tools

First, there’s NewEgg…

NewEgg is a great site and has a lot of items that are on the more obsolete side, which is great for someone like me who might need to get something for an older piece of equipment. So, I go here. It also has some of the cheapest prices on items, so I love this site!

Then, there’s PCMall…

PCMall tends to be more expensive than NewEgg, however, don’t discount these guys, they’ve been around a lot longer than most and they offer me solutions for some things I need quicker than others. Though, I would have to say that this in my book ranks lower than NewEgg and they are my last resort.

Then there’s Tigerdirect.com…

Tigerdirect is my favorite, most complete solution. They are 5 Stars in my book and are my first resource for anything that is new. They have some great options for refurbished equipment as well. Definitely go here first!

For fun there’s: .MAC…

This is a link I added for fun. So, have fun with it.

Last, there’s Windows Marketplace…

This is the only way to go for Windows software. Since Microsoft regulates their prices, they are the best avenue most of the time to purchase as well.

 There are many different ways to submit your site in the top Search Engines. The main search engines you would want to definitely be listed in are:

And one more note before I leave you to jump in to promoting your site. Don’t OVER PROMOTE! If you are using Addme.com, don’t do it more than once a month. If you do it more often than every 30 days, you will hurt your listing.

One more great link that is just a bit different, however it could help you get your blog posts listed, try: pingoat. This site can ping all the major engines that would list your blog. My ONLY encouragement is that you should only ping your blog when you’ve added new content.

I have found that more and more, search engines are using meta data to cull sites or raise their rankings. I am going back through my sites and attempting to do cleanup work on all my meta data. Now, Wordpress is pretty good about automatically updating meta tags and such, however there are some plugins that you can use which actually even clean that process up.

Two of them are:

However, for you guys who are out there doing the die-hard html site and want to make sure your site is getting the proper attention, here is a generator that might help. I actually got it from SEO Watch and they allow anyone to add it to their site for free. I have it here as a resource for our guys!
