Thought of the Week 3-28-2008

Thought of the Week 3-28-2008

“To forget how to dig the earth and tend the soil is to forget ourselves.”

-Mahatma Gandhi

Good News of the Day:
Earthworms are the original recyclers. They eat garbage, shred plant residue, and then spread the broken-down matter as they burrow into the ground. The worms also mix and aerate the soil, improve its drainage, and provide channels for roots to take hold. With the help of a talented social entrepreneur, hard work, and good luck, earthworms are making history again at TerraCycle Inc. The eco-friendly gardening supply company, which turns worm castings into organic liquid plant fertilizer, is affirming the green movement’s place in mainstream business. Terra Cycle makes organic plant food, but also uses recycled soda bottles and other recycled containers to package all its products. Although the company purchases most of its recycled packaging from professional suppliers, it also reimburses charities and schoolchildren for sending in their recyclables. The Stanford Social Innovation Review profiles Terra Cycle. [ more ]

I just thought this was interesting for this week.

I guess being as busy as I have been lately, I am just homesick for the farm!

Have a great day!

Breakthrough: The Women, Faith and Development Summit to End Global Poverty

 header

Dear leaders, and especially all my sisters,

I want to invite you to join me for Breakthrough: The Women, Faith and Development Summit to End Global Poverty. The event will take place at the Washington National Cathedral on Sunday, April 13th, and speakers will include such luminaries as Bishop Desmond Tutu and Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. My good friend, Kathy Morrell (who worked with me on the Halifax Summit in Nov. 2006), is one of the “forces of nature” behind this event, and I think it will be a wonderful learning opportunity for all who are able to attend. (If you cannot make it for the morning, you can jump in for the afternoon sessions; the event should not conflict with our evening service.) This Summit is free and open to the public as long as you pre-register while spaces are still available.  I encourage all those who are especially passionate about poverty and women’s issues to attend.  Let me know if you have any questions!

Blessings,
Lisa

About Our Story and this Software

This post goes out to all you wonderful people called church planters out there. We were blessed when we started the Tapestry by a group who created a software called Adoration. The software is a basic presentation software and we used it for our first three years in ministry.

We have long since changed software, however, I watched as this small company who provided us with this amazing blessing of free software stopped supporting their work and eventually shut down their site. Recently I saw some other sites taking advantage of the software and making it for sale since this company is no longer selling it. But, before this company totally shut down, they made their software free to church planters.

They posted their code and allowed people to download the free demo version, input the code and use the software in order to get started into ministry.

In the same heartbeat, we are hosting this software here.

DOWNLOAD ADORATION HERE

The Code is: CBCD-E3GC-CCC-RC6C

If you have any questions, this software is no longer supported, however, hopefully, we will later add some posts of things that can help you use it better.

We hope this helps and blesses and in some way continues on what our fellow believers who created Adoration had started!

And if you guys are reading this, thanks for sharing your wonderful work. The Tapestry would not be here today without you!

Blessings!

Dear Friends & Family,

As you all well know, I have been in Rockville, Maryland just outside Washington, DC for the last five years. Lori and I have been very blessed. She is currently working for First Potomac Realty Trust as Office Manager. I have been working for Burt Associates, Incorporated as Operations Manager. We have been working at these jobs so that we were able to not only start a new church but also fund it for the first years of its existence, not requiring any funds for salary and also affording ourselves a way to often times pay the bills to keep it going. The first six months to a year, Lori and I paid ALL THE BILLS to keep it running! And now, almost four years later, it is a growing self-sustained church! PRAISE GOD! We came as missionaries and we have sacrificed much to be here. But GOD has sustained us and blessed us so very much. We only give HIM PRAISE!

We planted the Tapestry Vineyard Church in June of 2004 and it has been the passion of our lives in Christ. It is growing, has two services and is in the process of securing a property to lease for a church facility.

The Lord blessed us with Anna Elizabeth, our daughter this past year. She was healed from a cyst on her brain. The doctor had encouraged us to have an abortion, however, we believed GOD, and still yet at the same time embraced the possibility of having a child with special needs. GOD came through and she was healed! We give Him all the praise.

As you all know, I have been very involved with missions and humanitarian work traveling to many nations around the world, doing work that GOD has gifted and allowed. The last time I actually took part in a mission myself was over three years ago before the church started. Now, I feel the LORD drawing back into the field. The Tapestry has sent teams to Cambodia, Mexico, India and Nepal. We have contacts in those countries and continue to send teams as the LORD allows.

For this trip, I have been invited by Johnny Crist, the pastor of the Atlanta Vineyard to join him on a journey to Tajikistan, a part of the former Soviet Union to minister with a team of pastors and leaders of Vineyard churches.

We will be traveling to various areas, ministering to the leaders, pastors and teams in the field that need encouragement. They have had a very tough winter and need prayers, finances, encouragement and ministry. We go in order to build relationships that will lead to our church further partnering with their churches for ongoing service, ministry, support and relationship. My personal heart is to network with the pastors and leaders, find ways we can finance various projects and entrepreneurs, and train leaders.

Tajikistan is a part of the 10/40 window, it is the area between the 10 degrees and 40 degrees North of the equator, and represents the largest population of non-Christians in the world. There are 62 nations from West Africa to East Asia. This region contains 97% of the un-reached people of the people groups with only 8% of all missionaries going there. This year they have suffered great loss with one of the coldest winters to date. Many have lost loved ones, homes and have lived without heat and power for many months. Our missionaries there have been in desperate situations and need our support and help.

I am writing this letter to you because I know that this is something I cannot do alone. As a team we are not able to do this work through our own efforts and strength. While overseas, it is absolutely important that my team and I have people supporting us through prayer and/or financial donations. I need committed individuals to pray daily for my team. As part of my going, I am to raise $1500 which will cover airfare and supplies. Any extra funds will go to ministry that we are able to provide the families and churches in Tajikistan.

If you decide to partner with me financially, Tapestry Church is a 501(c)3 organization in which all donations are tax-deductible. Please remember to include my name on the memo line or “Tajikistan.”
