Hey Charity Partner!

*wave*

Most of you know Squidoo as that place where lensmasters can make money
for their favorite charity. Right now, we’re doing something super
special where your supporters don’t even have to make a lens to support
you. That’s right. A simple click of the mouse can get you a chunk of
$80,000.

Here’s how it works: we’ve been saving 5% of our total income since we
got started. It’s part of our mission to do so, and now we’re asking for
your help in giving some of it away. All you need to do is go to
http://www.squidoo.com/squidoo-charity-giveaway and click on the charity
of your choice. For each vote a charity gets, we’ll donate $2 up to
$80,000 or through October 15th.

No joke, no gimmick. Just a few quick rules:

1. Feel free to invite as many people as you can to vote.
2. It’s entirely possible that one non-profit could get the lion’s share
of the donations. It’s all up to you.
3. Yes, it’s ok to blog about this. In fact, tell everyone. Think
website announcement, email list, press releases, etc. The more word
you get out, the more potential donations you’ll receive.
4. Of course, we hope you’ll still encourage your friends and volunteers
to sign up with Squidoo and make a few lenses. After all, 5% of what
they earn will continue to go towards helpful causes, and you’ll receive
a passive stream of donations month in and month out.

(And just for the record, everyone gets one vote only. We’ll delete
votes from duplicate accounts, and block the accounts.)

Don’t delay! Remember, this only runs through the first 40,000 votes or
October 15th. And while you’re there, be sure to get in on our debate
about the future of fundraising online.

Make it an awesome week!

Let’s make America thrifty again

What if convenience stores sold savings bonds instead of lottery tickets? A call to turn our nation of debtors into savers.

(Money Magazine) — There was something odd about the commercial, but it took me a little while to put my finger on it. This not-too-young, not-too-old, not-too-hip hipster with sideburns is talking about his credit-card company. Seems it has a new Web site that helps him plan how he’ll pay off his balance – someday.

The ad has the bright, soothing tone of a spot for, say, Lipitor or Advair. Credit-card debt is presented as if it’s just another of those unfortunate but manageable conditions that a lot of people live with.

And that’s the surprise. Aren’t credit-card ads supposed to be about all the awesome stuff you can buy? Here’s a lender all but admitting that many of its customers live beyond their means. We’ve come a long way, babies, when even the credit-card marketers are talking about Americans’ chronic debt.

Bush Urges congress to pass 700 Billion bail out plan

President says he’s ‘disappointed’ by rejection of bailout, and that Americans face ‘economic hardship.’ We do need to act at some level, however; maybe the reason we are moving slow is because we’ve just heard, “WOLF!” too many times. Whatever the case, Congress is moving slowly and rightly so. Let us be wise and careful to protect the America people from FEAR AND PANIC!!!! “THERE’S BLOOD IN THE STREETS!” Or is there really? What if everything we are seeing is being enacted for election day politics and newspaper sales. My fellow Americans, let us act in accordance during our elections should we find that ANY OR ALL of our beloved leaders are acting out of pure or impure motives. And may they rue the day that they played with the American people’s fears and minds. Let us also not forget that there is a larger world out there that is being affected by our past actions and present shenanigans.

“People should NOT fear their government. Governments should fear their people.” -”V is for Vendetta”

It’s time that our men and women in Congress and the house vote and act like their people need them to. I hope that out of all this, the truth will be known and that things spoken in secret will be shown in the light. And may it cause activity in NOVEMBER! Congressman or Congresswoman, this is for you, “YOUR JOB IS ON THE LINE!” The American people have spoken. It’s time to remember who pays your hefty income that you padded last year.

With this said, I know quite a few of our elected officials in DC and there are some great ones out there. My message for you is that I hope that you guys are working to get the job done and my prayers are with you! And I hope that after NOVEMBER, you will find more hard working servants of the people alongside you due to voter outcry!

Record decline in home prices

July home prices plunge 16.3% in 12 months, according to the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller 20-city housing index. This article shows that there is not one city whose market is gaining. With this kind of recession, there is no doubt that it will take months if not over a year for a return to balance. As I have been stating for the last 4 years, correction had to take place.

Magnetic Air Car Could Be Ready by 2010

Magnetic Air Cars, Inc. claims that it is working on the world
’s first fuel-less car. The Magnetic Air Car uses three on-board substations to harness compressed air. The resulting airflow is channeled, modulated, and converted to torque that propels the car. This is a VERY interesting technology! I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Mozy Backup Solution Just Released a FREE 2GB Solution

Mozy Backup has been one of my favorite solutions. I personally backup about 100GB of data with them and have three machines connected to their system, which I might add is fairly bullet proof. Right now, their latest press release states that they offer a FREE 2GB account! That doesn’t sound that great, however, peace of mind is everything…

Reviewing the WP-Cumulus Flash Tag Cloud Plugin

Roy Tanck’s WP-Cumulus allows you to display your site’s tags, categories or both using a Flash movie that rotates them in 3D. It works just like a regular tags cloud, but is more visually exciting. Clicking the tags can be a little hard (depending on your speed setting) but does take you to the appropriate page. The sources code is from subversion. It is developed from a cool site called Tweet3D for Twitter. You can find it here: http://tweet3d.com/. This is one of my favorite Wordpress plugins of the year!

5 Battered, but Worthy, Stocks

Stocks usually sell off for a reason. Sometimes a stock price declines because the market has efficiently digested new information and appropriately discounted its value. And sometimes a stock price spikes downward because people panic. There are a few stocks out there we still need to keep our eye on: TGB, TEX, GIGM, AIB, GA. Read on for more…
